Mirta Morigi
Ceramica Contemporanea
Born in Faenza, Mirta Morigi attends the Art Institute of Ceramic G. Ballardini, and after developing her skills as apprentice, then member, and finally as a teacher in different ateliers (botteghe), in 1973 she opens her own, situated in the yard of the historical Palazzo Barbavara, in the centre of town.
For thirty years of swarming activities, the Renaissance structure of the Bottega Morigi has always been a noble place that hosted the "brain of the hands". Considering the lesson of Sir Ernst Gombrich, its most illustrious host, its ceramic has represented a happy synthesis between past and future: not a case of imitation, but of emulation of the art of the ancient makers of majolica.
Morigi's great attention and sensibility to the culture of the project gave her the ability to soak her craftsmanship with a crossroads of experiences, and to transform it into a breeding ground for new and different ideas, a workshop open to the interdisciplinary contributions brought by architects, artists, designers, poets and musicians.
Her aptitude for the critical examination of the plan of the project, and her ability to mold it into a final product, allows the Bottega Morigi to be an European model of new art ateliers. This new "aesthetic factory" churns out objects always characterized by high dignity and material, formal grace; there is no renounce, though, to her typical "lightness" and conceptual irony. A production that is continually being enriched by the study of new collections, establishing ceramic as a specific "popular and illustrious" language, a border-line genre between sophisticated tradition and humoral, unconventional innovation.

Her works are exhibited in different collections and museums in Italy and in foreign countries.
She participated to the Concorso Internazionale in Faenza in 1973, 74, 75, 80, 82, 84, 85, 86, 87, 2001.
